Securing the Port

At the Port of Brownsville in Texas, Mexico’s land transportation is linked to the United Sates Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The port serves as a gateway to move goods between Mexico and the U.S. Security and law enforcement in the area are challenging due to the proximity to the border and deep-draft foreign vessel traffic. The South Texas Area Maritime Security Plan ensures effective measures to deter and respond to transportation security incidents. Port security officials use the Maritime Security Risk Analysis Model for risk assessment and response planning.
