Type, Size, and Age of Vehicles Driven by Teenage Drivers Killed in Crashes during 2008-12

This report uses the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) to look at fatal crash rates by vehicle type, size, and age. It examines drivers aged 15-17 and 35-50 and finds that fatally injured teen drivers were more likely to be driving small or midsize cars. In addition, the majority of vehicles driven by teens involved in fatal crashes were 6 years old or older and did not have safety features.
