THIS PAPER ANALYZES THE PERFORMANCE OF TWO EXTENDED RAPID RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEMS AND SHOWS THAT THE OPTIMUM NUMBER OF ROUTE MILES FOR RAPID RAIL TRANSIT I BETWEEN 95 AND 140 MILES. (3) INVESSTIGATION OF ALTERNATIVE MODAL SPLIT FORMULATIONS, E. N. DODSON. THIS PAPER INCLUDES TWO DIFFERENT STUDIES OF MODAL SPLIT FORMULATIONS; THE FIRST IS A NEW MATHEMATICAL FORMULATION WITH SEVERAL HIGHLY DESIRABLE PROPERTIES BUT WHICH HAS TO BE MODIFIED FOR USE WITH AVAILABLE EMPIRICAL DATA; THE SECOND IS A STUDY OF A SPECIAL CALIBRATION PROCEDURE. /TRRL/
