Travel Survey Methods

This issue contains 9 papers concerned with travel survey methods. Specific topics discussed are as follows: route-recording technology for the Swiss Microcensus on Mobility and Transport 2010; adaptation of an online transit journey planner into a low-cost travel survey tool; trip purpose identification from GPS tracks; and route choice and the value of time estimates in stated preference surveys. Other topics addressed in this issue include: identification of trip purpose in GPS-based household travel surveys; pen-and-paper surveys for transportation research in developing countries; detecting outliers in cell phone data; the use of subway smart card transactions for the discovery and partial correction of travel survey bias; and establishing links between online activity and car use using a combined travel diary and online-activity pseudodiary data set.
