TRANSIT FOR CALGARY'S FUTURE

THE CALGARY TRANSIT SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY SERVING A METROPO.ITAN POPULATION OF 335,800 PEOPLE - AN INCREASE OF MORE THAN 200% OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THE PRESENT POPULATION WILL INCREASE 130% BY 1986. A PROGRAM MUST BE DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE HOMES, JOBS AND MOBILITY FOR 439,930 MORE PEOPLE. A WELL PLANNED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IS A NECESSITY IN SUCH A RAPIDLY GROWING METROPOLITAN AREA. THE BASIC OBJECTIVE OF THIS ANALYSIS IS TO EXPLORE THE QUESTION OF THE PROPER BALANCE BETWEEN THE RELATIVE USE AND IMPROVEMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES: HIGHWAYS AND TRANSIT. /CGRA/
