Safety of Scholar Trip: Design of Innovative Support for Bus Drivers
This paper presents a Human centred design process followed to guide the future development of a Driver Support System (DSS) for school bus drivers. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) functionalities made available to support school bus driver could be an added value for road safety as long as drivers’ needs and constraints are taken into account for the in-vehicle system design. The various steps followed are presented: definition of use case for the innovative system, principle of ergonomic inspection of system, survey among school bus drivers to identify context of use, setting up of an ergonomic mock-up and evaluation of the mock up functionalities among bus drivers. Finally, acceptability and usability of functionalities have been evaluated through a transcultural survey conducted among French, Italian and Swedish bus drivers’ population.
