Dangerous by Design 2014

This document looks at pedestrian fatalities, ranks the most dangerous U.S. metropolitan areas to walk using a Pedestrian Danger Index (PDI), and outlines characteristics of dangerous roads. Additional data includes pedestrian fatality rates by age, race, and State; and States ranked using the PDI. Case studies of efforts made to increase the safety of pedestrians through highway design are provided. Recommendations for federal and State activities to improve pedestrian safety are suggested.
