An Ontology for the ERTMS/ETCS

The aim of the present paper is to describe the research and practical work of creating an ontology of the new European system of control and signalling European Rail Traffic Management System/European Train Control System ERTMS/ETCS. The object of this study is the System Requirements Specification set of documents, that is the corpus of the authors ontology. This one was processed using a Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool i.e. Protégé, in order to obtain a more explicit and easily usable form of these specifications. This processing was performed through a research and practice of system modelling and knowledge formalisation by using the Web Ontology Language (OWL) and Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL) languages. To be noted that this work is still in process, and that the part presented here constitutes the first steps in the creation of this ontology.
