Application of the Abstract Mode Model in Passenger Flow Forecast

Passenger volume forecast is an important issue in transportation systems. The precision of most methods comes at the cost of the level of complexity. In this paper, the abstract mode model is improved to forecast passenger flow more simply. First, the paper introduces the abstract mode model. Then, its applicability to the passenger flow forecast is studied -- the purpose of which is to provide a new method for volume forecast and sharing rate calculation in origin-destination (O-D) pairs. Later, the effectiveness of the abstract mode model is illustrated through its application to the Shanghai-Nanjing pair. In this case, the passenger flow in 2015 is forecast by the abstract mode model based on the volume data of Shanghai-Nanjing in a base year obtained by Logit model. The result shows that the improved abstract mode model is feasible, as well as significantly superior in the passenger flow forecast when the initial data is complete.
