Research of Train Turning-Back Simulation Based on Cellular Automata

The passing capacities of turning-back stations are more likely to be weak. Many scholars have researched the characteristics of train turning-back -- mostly using an analytical method -- without any simulated measures. In this paper, three cellular automaton models are proposed to simulate the train turning-back in different modes. The simulated results demonstrate that the proposed models can well describe the train's movement of turning-back in any mode. With the investigation of the space-time diagram and speed-time diagram for the train movement, the authors concluded that the passing capacity of front-station turning-back mode is larger than the back-station turning-back mode, though it has a lower level of safety.
