Study on Original Traffic Data Modification Method and Experimental Verification

Since the city traffic system is becoming more and more complex, the traffic data is increasingly larger as well. However, the problem of data quality is always the focus of traffic information researchers. Identification and modification of real-time traffic data has been the most basic and critical part in the intelligent transportation system. Through researching the large number of data, the authors divided the original data from detector into: (1) correct data; (2) irregular time-point data; (3) inaccurate detection data; (4) missing data; and, (5) event data. For the latter four abnormal data, the authors have been continuously exploring and improving the accuracy of modification methods. An interpolation algorithm is used to gain the function values of a specified missing value by a successive approximation method with a high-order polynomial and implemented by using a successive approximation of multiple linear combinations. The paper selects an improved interpolation algorithm to correct the traffic data and design an experiment to verify the method.
