United Loading and Unloading Truck Routing Problem in a Container Terminal

Considering the real constraints -- such as the separate-stacking strategy of import and export containers in the container yard and the loading and unloading operation sequence up and down a large container ship's hatch cover -- the paper establishes a scheduling optimization model of container trucks based on the shortest path of trucks as the objective function. The paper designs an improved ant colony algorithm and an algorithm based on heuristic rules to solve the model. The results of an example analysis showed that: (1) adopting the pool strategy can reduce the distance of trucks and the proportion of empty-loading, and (2) improve the efficiency of terminal operation.
