FULLY INTEGRATED NAVIGATION SYSTEM COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE
The Satellite Positioning Corp offers a completely integrated navigation system, utilizing the navigation satellite system and doppler techniques which provides a constant and extremely accurate position. An indication of the expected accuracy is at its worst 400 ft in error. The satellite receiver provides an accurate position to within 300 ft every 1 1/2 hr. A doppler sonar and velocimeter provides a record of both speed over the ground and direction of movement. The gyro compass provides a true heading. The information, constantly being gathered from the available sources, subject to increasing and decreasing errors and compensations, are treated to Kalman filtering. The mechanization of this filter, carried out by the SEL computer, brings the system variables such as heading and position closer to their true value, by postulating their effect on the systems navigational states. The processs virtue lies in the continuing updating of effects of errors affecting parts of the equipment. A block diagram shows constituent parts of the equipment. Several simpler integrated and nonintegrated versions are available.
