Validation of Cooperative Services in the FOT Testfeld Telematik–Approach and Lessons Learned

Cooperative systems have the aim to increase safety, security, sustainability and efficiency on the road network. In the Austrian field operational test Testfeld Telematik, different co-operative services, such as in-vehicle signage, roadwork warning and traffic light signal phase and timing, are provided to test users in an urban environment. The purpose of the project is to clarify open issues concerning the roll-out of cooperative systems, from a road-operator point-of view. The focus of this paper is the validation process of the single services within Testfeld Telematik including a short description of the overall system architecture. At the end the main challenges and lessons learned during this process are summarized, which can be beneficial for future field operational tests.
