A tow in time...

High levels of congestion in Atlanta, Georgia led the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to work to increase road safety and reduce congestion. GDOT has developed programs with local partners to this end, and many of the programs involve Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and incident management (IM) strategies. One program that was developed involving IM strategies was the Towing and Recovery Incentive Program (TRIP). TRIP provides financial incentives for towing and recovery companies that arrive on the scene of an incident within a timeframe. The objective is to clear incidents quickly to mitigate congestion. Since TRIP was implemented, it has provided benefits for safety and time-savings.
