Parking is pivotal to prosperity plans

Parking is often a contentious issue, leading to clashes between local governments and residents. Car parking on streets in central business districts can have negative effects on the area. Rotorua District Council in New Zealand has developed a system to encourage use of city centers while keeping traffic moving. Two hours of free parking are allowed in the inner city area, and unlimited metered parking is available farther out. Sensors in parking bays are used to detect when a space is occupied. A similar sensor system in Westminster in central London is about to be implemented to help drivers find a parking space in the frequently busy and congested borough. Development of smart technology allows local authorities to find flexible parking solutions.
