Singapore and China launch Sino Visitor Pass

Singapore has announced a plan for a new dual-currency payment card developed in partnership with the province of Guangdong, China. The Sino Visitor Pass will allow visitors from Singapore and Guangdong to pay for public transportation, along with other uses. The smart card can securely store both Singapore dollars and Chinese renminbi and has been called a breakthrough in payment platform interoperability. This initiative will be convenient for travelers and improve economic growth. There is a large market for payment cards in Singapore, including cards that can be used to pay for tolls, parking, and public transit, along with retail purchases. Singapore has only a single transportation agency, which gives it an advantage in developing multimodal smart cards.
