REFLECTIONS ON CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN URBAN TRANSPORTATION TOWARDS A POSITIVE APPROACH

CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN THE URBAN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PROCESS WAS STUDIED, AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SOUND THEORETICAL BASIS FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF OVERALL GOAL ACHIEVEMENT WAS THE MAIN CONCERN. A NUMBER OF DISCIPLINES AND VIEWS WERE STUDIED IN ORDER TO CREATE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT EACH HAD TO CONTRIBUTE. THE MAIN APPROACHES STUDIED WERE - ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT SCIENCE, POLITICAL SCIENCE, AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE FORCE OF CITIZEN PARTICIPATION CAN MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO BETTER TRANSPORTATION SERVICE. /RATAOC/
