SOME ASPECTS OF DATA COLLECTION

THE EFFECTIVENESS IS ASSESSED OF METHODS OF COLLECTING ORIGIN-DESTINATION (O-D) TRIP DATA TO MEASURE THE MODAL SPLIT BEHAVIOR OF COMMUTERS BETWEEN DRIVING AND TRAVELLING BY RAIL. THE THREE METHODS WERE (1) SCREENING OUT BY A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW THOSE HOUSEHOLDS THAT DO NOT GENERATE A COMMUTER TRIP, (2) INTERVIEWING THE COMMUTERS IN PERSON AT THEIR HOMES, AND (3) MAILING OUT QUESTIONNAIRES.
