THE UTILIZATION OF AN INFRARED THERMAL MAPPING SYSTEM FOR URBAN PLANNING

THE APPLICATION OF INFRARED IMAGERY TO PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES IN URBAN PLANNING IS DISCUSSED. SPECTRAL RESPONSE CHARACTERISTICS EXHIBITED BY INFRARED DETECTORS OF DIFFERENT TYPES ARE DESCRIBED. THE USE OF AN INFRARED THERMAL MAPPING SYSTEM IN URBAN PLANNING, HYDROLOGICAL STUDIES AND ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING AREAS IS CONCLUDED TO BE INVALUABLE AS A COMPLEMENT TO VISUAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND OTHER REMOTE SENSORS. AN INFRARED THERMAL MAPPING SYSTEM WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF PERCEPTUAL FAMILIARITY IN THE INFRARED REGION OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM.
