INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS FOR URBAN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

THE NEED FOR MORE AND BETTER INFORMATION ABOUT THE NATURE AND INTERACTIONS BETWEEN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF URBAN LIFE HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY APPARENT TO URBAN TRANSPORTATION PLANNERS. THE INCREASING USE OF MODELS REPRESENT ONE MEANS OF PROVIDING BETTER INFORMATION TO THE PLANNING DEPARTMENTS. HOWEVER, THE MODELS THEMSELVES CREATE A NEED FOR MORE COMPREHENSIVE AND ACCURATE DATA. A "TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER" IS DESCRIBED WHICH WOULD COMBINE OPERATING AND PLANNING AGENCIES OF ALL TRANSPORTATION-RELATED DEPARTMENTS WHICH COULD PROVIDE A MEANS TO COLLECT AND DRAW TOGETHER THE INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND OPERATIONS. /RATAOC/
