Tender tendons

An increasingly significant problem with bridges in the United States is the corrosion of post-tensioned (P-T) tendons, a growing awareness of which has resulted in stepped-up inspections of state departments of transportation's P-T structure inventory. During this process, the rate of tension corrosion is assessed and quantified, and remaining service life of the affected member is estimated. Types of corrosion and methods of monitoring/measuring and tackling the problem are illustrated in this article.
