COMPUTER PREPARATION OF CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THREE TYPES OF COMPUTER-GENERATED DOCUMENTS: PLOTTED DRAWINGS, NOT-TO-SCALE DRAWINGS AND SCHEDULES, AND SPECIFICATION TEXT, AND GIVES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PROPER USE OF EACH. IN DISCUSSING PLOTTED DRAWINGS AND SCHEDULES, THE AUTHOR STATES THAT THE AUTOMATIC PLOTTING OF THE HIGHWAY CROSS-SECTION FROM THE NUMERICAL DATA DESCRIBING THE GRADES IS NO LONGER SIGNIFICANT AND THAT THE REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION SUCH AS QUANTITIES OF CUT AND FILL, EXISTING GRADES, AND FINAL GRADES, CAN BE DISPLAYED JUST AS ADEQUATELY IN SCHEDULE FORM. EXAMPLES OF COMPUTER PREPARATION OF FINAL DOCUMENTS ARE GIVEN FOR CONCRETE BEAM SCHEDULES AND FOR STEEL CONVEYOR TRUSS SCHEDULES. THE COMPUTER IS BEST USED TO PRESENT NOT-TO-SCALE STANDARD DRAWINGS OR DIAGRAMS WITH COMPUTER GENERATED SCHEDULES OF DESIGN INFORMATION. /DOT/
