Centrifuge Model Test Study of Behavior of Foundation Pit

A series of centrifuge model tests was conducted to investigate the deformation and failure behavior of the foundation pit during construction period using the geotechnical centrifuge at Tsinghua University. The excavation and seepage processes were simulated in the centrifuge model tests for a reasonable consideration of the construction of the foundation pit. A few earth pressure cells were buried on the retaining wall to measure the earth pressure in the process of excavation and seepage. Several pore pressure transducers were installed in the soil to observe the pore pressure response. An image-based displacement measurement system (Zhang et al. 2005; Zhang et al. 2007; Zhang et al. 2009) was used to capture the images and measure the displacement field of the soil accordingly.
