Study on Complex Strata Classification of Shield Tunneling

The influencing factors of shield tunneling pattern, tool disposition, efficiency, construction process and parameters of shield tunneling are mainly discussed from five aspects - physical and mechanical properties, structure, construction and water abundance of complex strata - which vary a lot from one type to another. Therefore, it is necessary to master the classification of the complex strata and its influence on shield tunneling accurately. This paper attempts to put forward a set of classification processes and methods based on geological features of complex strata of Guangzhou and Shenzhen area. The complex strata is clustered into six groups (A~F). Then, each group is clustered into four subclasses (I~IV) according to main influencing factors of penetration rate (PR) and face self-stability. This method is of certain guiding significance for shield construction and the study of stratum adaptability.
