ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES TO MEET TODAY'S NEEDS

European designers and manufacturers of locomotives have exploited the factor of wheel-to-rail adhesion in order to improve the power/weight ratios of their machines. This was achieved by the use of low-weight-transfer trucks, low unsprung weight, homokinetic transmission of motor torque to axles and permanent connection of traction motors in parallel.
