Moving towards Sustainability: 2012 Metro Sustainability Report Using Operational Metrics

This report provides an update on the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (Metro's) resource use and contribution to reduced emissions and greenhouse gases for 2011 and tracks progress towards sustainability goals. It discusses the methodology used to obtain and analyze data and how efficiency is measured. Indicator areas for analysis include: water use, criteria air pollutant emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, greenhouse gas displacement, energy use, waste and recycling, operating expense, unlinked passenger trips per capita, and vehicle miles traveled per capita. For each indicator area, the report lists significant actions or programs affecting the indicator; provides data graphs and analyses; and discusses specific steps Metro is considering for future implementation. The report also outlines the broad policies, goals and standards Metro has developed to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability throughout the planning, construction and operation of various projects.
