PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORDING OF HIGHWAY FACILITIES AND THEIR CONDITION

A PHOTOGRAPHIC INVENTORY OF THE MAJOR HIGHWAYS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA IS BEING MADE BY MEANS OF INTERMITTENT SINGLE FRAME PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD OPENING OF A MOVING VEHICLE AND RECORDING OF A DRIVER'S VIEWPOINT OF THE HIGHWAY. THE FILMED RECORD WILL BE A COMPLETE AND ACCURATE RECORD, WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE ANGLE OF VIEW OF THE LENS AND THE RESOLUTION OF THE FILM, OF THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME OF EXPOSURE. THE POSSIBLE USES INCLUDE: (1) STUDY OF ROADWAY GEOMETRICS INCLUDING PAVEMENT AND SHOULDER WIDTHS, GRADIENTS, CURVATURES, SIGHT DISTANCES AND LIMITED CLEARANCE STRUCTURES. (2) STUDY OF GENERAL ROADWAY CONDITION INCLUDING PAVEMENT, SHOULDER, PAINTING AND GUARD RAILS. (3) INVENTORY AND LOCATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL AND SERVICE ITEMS SUCH AS SIGNS, SIGNALS, CHANNELIZATION, TURN SLOTS AND PARKING AREAS. (4) STUDY OF ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT, ROAD ACCESSES, CULTURAL FEATURES, ETC. (5) ADMINISTRATIVE PURPOSES WHICH MAY INVOLVE CONFERENCE DECISIONS, PUBLIC RELATIONS OR LEGAL ACTIONS. /CGRA/
