RTG TURBOTRAINS

LES TURBOTRAINS RTG

The author, who is a SNCF Ingenieur en Chef in charge of the Thermic Motor Department and therefore responsible for turboengine traction, explains in this article why, following the excellent results obtained with the RTG trainsets on the Paris-Cherbourg line, it has been decided to built RTG Turbotrains with a maximum speed of 200 km/h for operating on fast services over certain non-electrified lines, particularly on cross-country routes. He describes the rolling stock, its mechanical and thermic characteristics (turbomotor), the power transmission system and the electrical equipment.
