California Smart-Growth Trip Generation Rates Study

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) publishes "Trip Generation," a manual that provides estimates of the number of trips new development is likely to generate. Most data are obtained at suburban locations and often do not accurately reflect the trip generation patterns at smart growth sites. A methodology for producing more accurate trip-generation rates for smart growth sites across California and a spreadsheet tool for practitioners is developed. This report includes appendices with six standalone reports that explore definitions, methodologies, and existing tools, and provide an extensive literature review.
