Lessons Learned From the Utah Transit Authority System Expansion

This paper is an overview of the proceedings of a conference held in Salt Lake City on June 20, 2012 by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) and The Eno Center for Transportation on lessons learned from UTA's successful expansion of the transit system including light rail, commuter rail, and bus rapid transit lines. Topics include: dealing with stakeholder opposition, consensus building, the role of the 2002 Winter Olympics, federal funding, innovative contracting, and private-public partnerships. A look at similar transit expansion in Denver, Colorado is also included.
