The ABCs of RCC

As usage of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) becomes more common, improvements are being made in its composition and performance. In the past, RCC was used in heavy-duty applications, but recently, it has moved into highway pavements. RCC simplifies construction because it does not need forms, reinforcing, jointing, or finishing. It is constructed quickly at a low cost. It is, however, insufficient for high-level pavements such as interstate highways and arterials, due to its surface texture. Research on and usage of RCC is growing in Arkansas; the cost benefits make it a good alternative for haul roads for trucks serving natural gas wells. RCC pavements are able to withstand the loads from heavy vehicles.
