CASTLES IN THE AIR? THE DEVELOPMENT OF AIR-SPACE ON LAND USED FOR TRANSPORT ACTIVITIES

AIR-SPACE DEVELOPMENT IS CONSIDERED TO BE RELATED TO TRANSPORT ROUTES. A GENERAL THEORY IS DEVELOPED SO THAT MANY OF THE CONCEPTS EXAMINED HAVE WIDER APPLICATION, SUCH AS PARKING LOTS UNDER OPEN SPACES, OFFICES AND HOUSING OVER LIGHT INDUSTRY. JUDICIOUS DEVELOPMENT OF AIR-SPACE IS WORTH-WHILE, AS IT GENERALLY HELPS TO CONSERVE AND LIBERATE GREATER WEALTH FROM LAND WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE ONLY HAVE A LIMITED BENEFICIAL USE. THE PARTICULAR PITFALLS WHICH MUST BE AVOIDED ARE THE DEVELOPMENT OF INAPPROPRIATE SITES AND THE USE OF ILL-CONSIDERED CONSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES. BEFORE PROJECTS ARE EMBARKED UPON THERE SHOULD BE A CAREFUL ANALYSIS OF COSTS AND BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY AND OF THE IMPACT OF THE DEVELOPMENT ON THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT. /AUTHOR/
