TRANSPORT SOUS LE REGIME DU FROID

The author, who is Ingenieur Principal Adjoint, SNCF Rolling Stock Department, explains technical developments in the construction of wagons and transcontainers, and the successive progress leading to the most recent types; he describes the characteristics, the equipment (generating and refrigerator units in particular) and the design of several units built. He then gives details of the techniques employed for manufacturing the insulating walls from synthetic materials and the very marked development these last ten years of bodywork comprising prefabricated sub-units; he explains manufacture, then assembly and concludes by describing the numerous and satisfactory tests carried out at the Vitry-sur-Seine and Vienna-Arsenal Testing Stations on wagons, and at the Terginier Centre on transcontainers, as well as the first results under service conditions which point to the extensive development of this type of equipment.
