Characteristics and Challenges of Croatian Transport Policy

The transport policy is a part of the entire social politics and a part of the economic policy, which serves as means for directing the development of the traffic system both vertically and horizontally. The basic task of the transport policy is to evaluate the national geographic and transport as well as the geopolitical position of the country. Designing the national transport policy is a complex procedure, which defines the general conditions for various traffic sectors with the aim of enabling rational transportation of goods and passengers. Accordingly, this paper elaborates the most important features and challenges of the transport policy of the Republic of Croatia for the 21st century. The obtained knowledge can be used by the beneficiaries of transport policy in Croatia considering the aims of Croatian transport policy within the frame of the European Union.
