Investigation of Lateral Resistance Factor (η) of Sand Using Pressuremeter: Numerical Approach

In this study a mathematical formulation to estimate the resistance factor of sandy soil η was developed. The mathematical formulation presented herein was formulated based on a numerical parametric study to survey the effect of sand properties and pile diameter on η. ABAQUS finite element program was used to model the pressuremeter test in sand. The finite element (FE) analysis outcomes were statically analyzed to establish a possible systematical correlation that is capable of predicting a reasonable estimate for the resistance factor η in a sandy soil. Based on the FE model tests, the developed formulation shows a superior capability to predict the resistance factor η of sandy soil. Parametric study has been also conducted to define the significant factors affecting lateral resistance factor of sand η. According to the FM model, the developed mathematical formulation shows a superior potential for estimating the lateral resistance factor of sand η.
