JNR AUTOMATES TAKASAKI MARSHALLING YARD

To solve the problem of class track closing, JNR has tried several solutions: 1) Have continuous 0.25% gradient on class tracks and a Dowty continuous type retarder to keep speeds below 1.6 mps; 2) Use weight responsive retarders; 3) Use (as at test in Toyama Yard) a linear motor booster/retarder.
