Impacts of changes in winter severity on winter

A significant evolution and change in temperature profiles, precipitation, and general deviation from traditional seasonal cycles is indicated by data from the past years. Forecasts are getting more difficult as snow events have become more intense and sudden. Analyses made for some regions show that some significant changes are to be expected, specifically for winter months, based on Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scenarios. Using indicators, such as de-icer consumption, manpower, and costs, impacts of these changes on winter maintenance are analyzed in this report. The impact on road infrastructures, specifically that of frost/thaw cycles, is discussed.
