Thermo-mechanical fatigue of Ni-base superalloys

To be able to design lighter aero engine parts which can withstand the increasing temperatures new materials and methods, which can cope with the evermore harsh conditions in the hot parts of the engine, are necessary. This project aims to characterize and understand the deformation behavior of advanced Ni-base superalloys at the higher temperatures where time dependent phenomena and thermo-mechanical effects become more pronounced. This is necessary to be able to predict the life of new components subjected to in-service thermo-mechanical fatigue.
