ELVIS - demonstrationsprojekt för längre och tyngre tåg

ELVIS - demonstration project with longer and heavier trains

The project will analyse how the railway system can be made more efficient by using longer or heavier cargo trains. Two demonstrations, one with longer trains and one with heavier trains will be undertaken. These will show the potentail of this technology, the required organisational adaptations, infrastructural limitations and so on. The hypotheses is that longer and heavier trains have a potential to make transports more efficient both in terms of energy consumption and economically. These hypotheses will be evaluated by measuring electricity consumption and by a cost benefit analysis. It will also be analysed how network capacity, other traffic, operator needs, robustness etc. are affected by the phisical and temporal space that are allocated to a specific train.
