Development of advanced flow control for drag reduction on heavy vehicles of the future

Active flow control for drag reduction measures, applied at the front part of heavy vehicles will be investigated through experimental and numerical studies. The use of suitable actuators on a truck cab and chassis may lead to a reduction in aerodynamic drag with up to 10 %. The project will give a physical understanding for the possibilities to use such a technology to reduce aerodynamic drag by investigating a chain of basic flow cases, through generic model problems up to wind tunnel studies of scale models, as well as simulations, of real trucks.
