CECOST - Development and application of tools for studying combustion processes

The goal of this proposal is to continue the established national centre, CECOST with the aim to develop and apply various tools, based on diagnostics as well as modelling, to study combustion processes. The activities cover the entire range from fundamental method development, phenomenological studies to applied research, all directed towards combustion applications, within CECOST as well as applications in the other national combustion centres. The activities are highly interdisciplinary and strong benefits from the close national and industrial collaboration are expected. The activities were evaluated with very good scores 2009. The research activities will continue at an unchanged level (12 MSEK / year from the Energy Agency). In line with the first recommendation of the generalist evaluators to the Energy Agency, CECOST plan to initiate an activity to promote the collaboration between the different combustion related centre activities in Sweden. This activity consists of a national graduate school and a joint national scientific activity, where funds are reserved for jointly proposed collaborative projects between at least two universities. The activities within the high pressure combustion facility in Lund are also included in CECOST.
