Intermodal transport systems for fast moving goods

The project's aim is to identify the flows of fast freight, and to analyse the conditions for new intermodal transport arrangement for goods. This will be done with evidence from previous studies and current projects on intermodal shipments of non-durable consumer goods. An aim is to distinguish by flow differentiation different types of fast freight and identify the advantages of to coordinate the flow of various kinds of fast goods that are similar characteristic and set similar requirements in the transport chain. Furthermore, based on results obtained through the previous studies on air transport, identify and analyse opportunities for the introduction of intermodal transport of air cargo to, from and between airports in the Nordic countries. These transport referred to in the first instance to carry out within the existing intermodal transport systems. The aggregate flows of fast moving goods referred to identified in corridors and strings within Sweden, as well as to/from Sweden. The intention is to collect flow data and other information about fast goods in addition to non-durable consumer goods. Data and flow data relating to non-durabe consumer goods is during collection and processing in the ongoing project and referred to be placed at the disposal of this project. The project is expected to show that the volume of scale and improved efficiency can be achieved by creating integrated intermodal approach for fast freight within Sweden as well as to/from Sweden. This causes economies of scale obtained at the same time that a better balance can be achieved when non-durable consumer goods transported together with other fast freight. It follows volume effects promote the use of means of transport with economies of scale, which at the transport by long distances also offers better environmental performance and sustainability than pure road transport. An example of this is intermodal transport solutions. By the economies of scale referred to be achieved with the coordination of flows of different types of fast freight is expected to make it possible to create new intermodal transport approach can offer a high departure frequency, short transport times and high quality. Representatives of the non-durable consumer goods sector specified that it is desirable in most relationships with at least one connection per day and in relationships with major routes, several flights per weekday hours. In addition, the project is expected to result in an increased knowledge of how fast freight moves and the extent to which that goods flow has, within Sweden and into and out of Sweden. The project is expected to also view whether and how these flows can be divided into a number of strings, which is supposed to be aggregated in a number of corridors with greater aggregated flows. Furthermore, the project is expected to show how the land transport of air cargo in an increasingly extent can be intermodal transported by adopting and improving the terminal systems that is created for fast freights in a manner that suits the transport system for air cargo. The project is expected to finally show the requirements and conceptual ideas that may be required to create the transport platforms as required in the future be able to offer efficient intermodal transport approach for fast freights.
