Compressor design methods for NSA/Open Rotor

Goals/targets The aim is to improve the the possibilities to design an efficient and functional booster compressor for an Open rotor engine. The compressor has requirements in order to suit this engine type, that makes highlights the trade between functional margin at part speed and efficiency and weight. The objective is to demonstrate methods that improves the the compressor design by introducng part speed properties into the blade optimization. Result and effects: The expected impact is that we reach a higher level of optimization by making the design tools more efficient, and to better understan the details of the different oprating points. The objective is to demonstrate an improved design compared to an earlier compressor design. Planning and implementing: A Ph.D. student project is carried out at Chalmers, closely coupled to demonstration projects at VAC. The project takes a starting point in test data generated at VAC for a newly designed 3 stage booster compressor. The analysis methods used are anchored against this data. The VAC design tools, are augmented and used to derive a new compressor design.
