Delivery of Australia's first metro line

The purpose of this paper is to describe the delivery and likely configuration of the CBD Metro which will be Australia’s first Metro. The project was announced by the Premier of NSW Government on 31st October 2008 with the line scheduled to be completed and in operation by the end of 2015. A new Government authority, Sydney Metro was set up in January 2009 with its responsibility to deliver and manage the ongoing operation of metro lines in Sydney. The CBD Metro is the first stage of Metro Line One which, in its final configuration, is planned to run from Westmead through to the North West. In addition to the delivery of the CBD Metro, there is also preconstruction and planning approval being sought for Stage 2 of Line 1 which is the West Metro running from Central to Westmead. The NSW Government have committed full funding.
