A case study in the use of technology alliances to further the Australian rail industry
United Group Rail's technology alliance with the General Electric Company (USA) via GE - Transportation has existed for 30 years. The relationship has grown stronger over the past decade with an expansion beyond the Australian domestic locomotive market. The partnership model developed by United Group Rail and GE - Transportation in Australia has been leveraged throughout the world. United Group Rail has assisted GE in the development of locomotives that cater for varying axle loads, track gauge and horsepower requirements to suit global rail operations. This partnership continues to deliver superior products and solutions. This joint global activity creates skilled jobs for Australians, provides excellent exposure for Australians to develop new skills and opens up opportunities for Australian exports of products and technology. The United Group Rail and GE - Transportation technology alliance in the international market also enhances our ability to serve the Australian domestic market more effectively. The complementary design, manufacturing, maintenance, supply chain and technical support skills that exist between United Group Rail and GE - Transportation, provides a significant multiplier effect of benefits for our Australian customers.
