Double Vision

At 1.3 miles in length, the Sheridan Expressway is one of America’s shortest interstates. A two-year grant study has been completed on how to improve the Sheridan Expressway and its surrounding infrastructure. It was necessary to balance community priorities of the residential area with maintaining the efficiency of the route to the central business district. The study also looked at improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists, improving access to public parks, and rationalizing the highway network. The findings of the study produced recommendations that would reduce the carbon footprint and the impact of the expressway on local neighborhoods. Traffic modeling for the study utilized a mesoscopic-microscopic hybrid simulation.
