Development of a nationwide network of modernized rail lines somewhat similar to the Interstate Highway System would provide improved transportation service to the nation. This paper suggests the development of such a system, and presents an introduction to the concept, physical requirements, implementation process, and potential benefits of the system. Specific potential routes in the West South Central states are discussed for purposes of illustration. /Author/
