LINEAR MOTORS FOR DRIVE SYSTEMS
LINEARMOTOREN FUER FAHRZEUGANTRIEBE
As with rotating-field machines, travelling-field machines may be of the synchronous or induction type. The simpler construction of the induction type is contrasted, among other things, by the possibility offered by the synchronous type of increasing the air gap flux density, and thus the specific thrust, the efficiency and the power factor. This possibility can be utilized when the product of the kA/m and the ratio of pole pitch to air gap only reaches very small values with the induction type owing to the spatial and thermal conditions determined by the application. This can also be approved experimentally with the aid of a rotating model.
