DC CHOPPER REGULATORS FOR ELECTRIC ROLLING STOCK

Progress in the development of thyristors has opened up new technical possibilities for the control of d.c. traction vehicles. Thyristor converters now permit the contact voltage to be changed into other voltages suitable for drive motors and auxiliaries. Since all technical problems have been solved, it will be possible to use standard d.c. chopper regulators for d.c. traction systems. Trials with prototype vehicles have produced excellent results.
